1. Why do I have to do this after all these years?
The state of North Carolina requires that anyone convicted of a D.W.I. (no
matter how along ago) has to have a D.W.I. assessment and a minimum of education
or treatment in order to have the hold taken off of their license.
We at Insights in Recovery hope to be able to guide you through this complicated
process and enable you to get the hold lifted.
2. Where can I have my assessment and treatment?
There is a page on our website that will guide you to an accredited facility in your area. Or, you can look in the yellow pages under Alcohol or Alcohol treatment and some of these agencies will offer the treatment needed. If you have a problem finding a suitable agency you can call us on our toll free line 1-800-boozitup.
3. How do I pay?
Visa or MasterCard. There is a form to fill out on our website that you can
mail, or fax to us. You can send a check or money order to the address on
the website. You can also pay by phone. The fax number is on the form.
Do not send this money or any forms to the NCDMV. This will just delay the
process.
4. I did all the assessment and treatment when I got my DWI. Why do I have to do it again?
There could be many reasons your information was not sent into the D.M.V. In the past computers were not as reliable as today and your information may not have been entered: The agency may not have sent your paperwork in for many reasons. If you have proof that you did the treatment that will help. If not, treatment will have to be done again. We at INSIGHTS in Recovery will help you as quick as possible get this information to the DMV.
5.Can my state or substance abuse facility send the 508 to the DMV?
No. These forms must be checked, recorded and processed by an agency such as Insights in Recovery. Then the necessary paperwork is sent to the DMV, where it is processed. If your paperwork is sent to the NCDMV, the paperwork is not processed.
6.How long does it take?
7.What information does the treatment facility need? What do I tell them?
We have provided a document called the Interstate Facility Letter (page #4 on the Out of State page on this website). That letter is for the treatment facility and tells them what is required. If they need more information, have them call us for clarification.
8.How many hours of treatment do I have to complete?
The amount of treatment is decided by your treatment facility. North Carolina requires a minimum of 20 hours. If your state does not have this amount, have the facility call us.
9. Can I do the paperwork and send it to the DMV?
No. There are certain forms and records that we need to get that are used to send in to the DMV. Also the processing over the computer requires a State website.
